‘Mother’s Mantra’ is a succinct summary of universal concerns of mothers living away from their children. This hanging piece of seven words individually rotates and alternates between a telephone and a word, denoting intermittent communication of a well-worn message from a mother.
Black PVC cut outs and recycled corrugated iron are used here. Each English word on a square format is derivative of traditional Chinese stone seal/chop.

‘Rock & Blah, Blah’ is an assemblage of three pieces. Each piece contains a black PVC image of a partially submerged rock from my favourite swimming hole on ‘nonsense’ calligraphy, since some pieces of Chinese calligraphy is regarded as art work rather than just textual.

The four ‘Aprons’ represent my mother and her three daughters. Each of the aprons has waistbands of black PVC with images of children linking hands. They are similar to the ones my mother cut out and left strewn around my room when I had childhood illnesses. They are supposed to ward off bad spirits. In the middle of each ‘aprons’ is a ‘cloud chaser’ symbol. This symbol is meant to look as formidable as the characters represented. On the hemlines are PVC cut-outs of recognisable mountain silhouettes from where I currently live, with plenty of water underneath. The work suggests the dichotomy of longing and belonging.
